1867 saw an amendment to the NSW Postal Act,  with maximum penalty of £50 to those convicted of damaging or destroying letter boxes.

  1. Gee ... that was a hefty fine back in those days. Letters are a dying art, methinks, and in 25 years there may be very few of ANY type of pillar box on street corners. More's the pity, but that is what we call 'progress'.
